Welcome to plutocracy6/11/2023 ![]() Over the past several weeks, I've gotten many nervous "7 weeks until bikini time," "4 weeks until bikini season," "2 weeks until I have to be in a bikini," "I'm not going to the beach or any pool parties this summer" texts from several different friends. Main stream media has begun to include all body types in modeling and advertisement campaigns, but yet there's a sense of not feeling good enough still lingering in the air. ![]() Summer is the warmest and most fun season, but it can also easily be the most stressful season for anyone who suffers from body image issues. Whenever I give a tour of my town I never leave out the village or the colleges because they’re such a huge part of what makes my town so special. In fact, Claremont is known as a college town because of how college centered it is (so much so we actually named a lot of our streets after famous colleges). They all have their own personalities despite not having any distinct borders separating them. They’re all very distinguished, both in their reputation as educational institutions and their campus. They’re known as the Five-C’s (The Five Claremont Colleges): Pomona, McKenna, Scripps, Pitzer, and Harvey Mudd. What also contributes heavily to the grandeur of the city is the fact that it’s the home of five very prestigious colleges. You’ll rarely find the restaurants and shopping attractions anywhere else. ![]() It has a village that’s filled with unique, privately managed businesses that further add to the uniqueness of the overall city. Nevertheless its beauties are unbound by the restrictions of descriptive words as they do it no justice. Mike Pence, the elect's VP, lives a respectable life with a net worth of about $210,000.Ĭlaremont is about an hour or so away from L.A. Not to mention, the future POTUS is valued at $3.7 billion. Ben Carson-Secretary of HUD, $30 million Tom Price-Secretary of HHS, $13.6 million Elaine Chao-Secretary of Transportation, $ 22.8 million Linda McMahon-Administrator of the Small Business Administration, $500 million and RIck Perry-Secretary of Energy, $3 million. His most valuable picks include: Besty DeVos-Secretary of Education, $5.2 billion Steven Mnuchin-Secretary of the Treasury, $40 million Wilbur Ross-Secretary of Commerce, $2.9 billion, Rex Tillerson-Secretary of State, $150 million Jeff Sessions-Attorney General, $7.5 million Dr. President-elect Donald Trump's cabinet is poised to fit the definition of plutocracy. Martin Gilens, an associate professor of politics at Princeton University states, “’The ability of citizens to influence public policy is the ‘bottom line’ of democratic government,’ the ability to influence policy has skewed toward the most affluent people, whose priorities often don't coincide with those who earn less." If this continues, the United States will turn into that plutocracy where the wealthy few controls the nation, and it is happening now more than ever. Influence in government is shifting from the public’s voice to the wallets of the wealthy. Most support trickle-down economics, rewarding the rich through tax-breaks and loopholes, while the needs of the middle and working classes are neglected. It creates a plutocracy that obstructs economic growth and polarizes social classes.Ī plutocracy empowers the wealthiest quintile to take complete control of the government. Income inequality is deleterious to America. ![]() The government since the 1980s is guilty in allowing income inequality to form, and it might get worse come the next administration. Stiglitz notes that income inequality is the result of “tax decreases for the rich and the easing of regulations on the financial sector.” This shows income inequality benefits top earners, but hurts middle and working class Americans who do not see as much growth. Nobel Prize winning economist Joseph Stiglitz found since 2009, “Ninety-five percent of all income gains have gone to the top 1 percent.” Meanwhile, median income in America hasn’t moved in almost a quarter-century.
